On the back of every coin is the phrase “E Pluribus Unum.” This is Latin for “of many, one.” The idea is simple, even though we are many, we stand together as one. When one of us has a crisis, we need to stand together as a nation and fix the problem. That is all of us, not some of us. This is the unity that we need to show the residents of the Gulf Coast.
I can’t sit here and say that everyone has acted perfectly in this crisis. There have been problems generated by the federal, state, and local governments in their response to this crisis. This is to be expected, none of us are perfect. We need to put this drama in perspective and focus on real issues. If I’m in quicksand and sinking; I don’t care how the rope was made or how you got there. I need the help. With the problems that our government officials have created, we should recognize the problems and just fix them the best way we know how. This is not the time to play the blame game or just complain that things are not running smoothly. The focus needs to be in solutions. I think the best solutions will be achieved if we stand together as one.
Yesterday, Ron Paul posted a new blog about how there is too much government in the Gulf and how the locals can take care of themselves. I’m not much for playing armchair quarterback. The entire nation needs to help and that includes the federal, state, and local governments.
This is a crisis for the Gulf Coast residents and it is a crisis for our nation.
Of many, we are one.
We all need to work together and fix this problem together.
